According to a recent report, 82% of US restaurants and food service businesses are actively seeking new employees. However, labor shortages are a major concern for many of these businesses, with 23% citing it as one of their top challenges.
The report found that the most difficult positions to fill are:
- Chefs and Cooks (30% of all open roles)
- Dishwashers (12% of all open roles)
- Cashiers (7% of all open roles)
In addition to recruitment challenges, many businesses are struggling to retain staff, with 30% of restaurant industry employees at risk of leaving within the next two years. This highlights the importance of implementing effective retention strategies.
To mitigate the impact of labor shortages, business owners should focus on developing attractive recruitment and retention strategies. This may include offering competitive compensation packages, enhancing workplace culture, and leveraging technology to streamline hiring processes.
